Our food and drink (Introduction)
Since opening our first pub in 1979, J D Wetherspoon has become one of the UK’s most popular and successful highstreet free houses. By delivering consistently high-quality service in food and drink, we now have 695 pubs across the UK. From day one, we have been committed to offering a friendly and comfortable drinking atmosphere, with good-quality, great-value food, served all day.
Our food menus offer an enticing mix of traditional British meals, along with popular and innovative international dishes. We are proudly and strongly committed to regional tastes and produce: beers from provincial brewers, local dishes using locally sourced ingredients, particularly in Scotland and Wales, and even regional spirits. We also have a superb range of global beer, high-quality wine and one of the widest choices of cider and perry.
So, if you fancy a good pint, a tasty curry or meal out with the family, we hope that you enjoy the Wetherspoon experience.
You can check out our food facts page, here.
Super-chilled draught products
Enjoy super-chilled lagers and the perfect-serve wine, every time! Throughout 2007, J D Wetherspoon invested a whopping £15million to improve the serving temperature of our lagers and wine – making it cooler!
Lagers and certain beers are brewed to taste better, when served chilled. Our new glycol system means that our customers will be guaranteed the crispness and sharpness of taste which you can enjoy only from a cold pint. So, whatever the temperature outside or in, we will ensure the perfect-serve chilled lager at 1–3°C.
It’s not good news just for lager, though. We will also be guaranteeing perfect quality, freshness and temperature for wine, with draught Fetzer. For white and rosé wine, this will mean that every glass will be served at 4–8°C.
Our red wine will be perfectly served at 18–22°C, with no exposure to air which comes with opened bottles which, over time, impairs the taste of the wine.
Check out the food and drink section to read more about our super-chilled lagers and super-chilled wines.
Wetherspoon club nights
Great deals on grear meals! Our weekly Curry Club, Grill Club and Sunday Club are a regular feature of our menus across England, offering great value and fantastic food, all served with a drink included in the price (see menu's for full details).
The really great thing about our clubs, apart from being fantastic value, is the variety of choice. For example, all of our pubs in England offer at least five curries – from the mildest to the hottest – every Thursday, as part of Curry Club. Some pubs even offer up to 15 great curry dishes!
Clubs are incredibly popular with customers, and we are continually improving and extending the choice available.

Wetherspoon pubs in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide
A total of 133 Wetherspoon pubs feature in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide 2008 – Britain's longest-running and best-selling guide to Britain's best pubs for real ale.
As Time Out magazine explains: “Put together by CAMRA, it's the definitive rundown of the best places in the UK to get a pint of real ale, from cosy country inns to upmarket style bars.”
And we’re glad to have such a prominent presence within the guide!
You can read about why Wetherspoon is the champion of real ale, here.

Unique pub design
J D Wetherspoon has earned a reputation for converting a wide array of buildings into pubs. These include former banks, car showrooms, cinemas, post offices, theatres and even a funeral parlour. The company has also won recognition for the design and restoration of many of its outlets.
J D Wetherspoon works closely with planners, residents and in some cases English Heritage, to ensure each new pub is built to the highest specification and is an asset to the area.
We believe our pubs have a positive effect in areas where they are located and act as a catalyst for other businesses to improve their premises. The pubs also attract new people into these areas, so other businesses and shops benefit.
The company's development team regularly monitors each pub in order the improvements and decorating can be carried out when required.
Why not search our pubs and take a look at the diverse range of designs on show!
Groovy loos
When J D Wetherspoon opens a new pub, it's not just the front of the building and the drinking and eating areas which are fully renovated and given a completely new look – the pub's loos are designed to both fit with the new surroundings and be a major attraction in themselves.
It is not unusual to find a sofa and chairs in the ladies' anteroom or state-of-the-art taps in the men's.
A few of our ladies' loos are the same size as the whole of some of our pubs. This aspect was actually mentioned on national Radio Five Live. Being so plush, these loos are often shown off by many women to their partner!

Free Wi-Fi is here
Wetherspoon’s customers can now browse with their burgers and surf with their sausages, thanks to a free Wi-Fi connection service. All customers with a Wi-Fi-enabled laptop will be able to connect to hi-speed Internet.

Challenge 21
As a responsible seller of alcohol, J D Wetherspoon works hard to ensure that the law on underage drinking is adhered to, in all of our venues.
As part of that process, we invest in the best training for our staff. We have also introduced customer information in our establishments, under the ‘Challenge 21’ banner. This initiative explains the need for acceptable photographic evidence for those who appear to be under 21.
Wetherspoon hopes, by joining this government-led and highly visible campaign, that it will increase the public’s awareness of the issue and the importance of proving that you are old enough to drink.
So please, if you intend to drink in Wetherspoon, bring along your ID.
CLIC Sargent charity
At any one time, 3,000 children are undergoing treatment for cancer and leukaemia in the UK. CLIC Sargent wants to help to provide practical support to children suffering from these diseases and to their families.
The charity currently operates eight ‘Homes From Home’, providing free, self-catering accommodation for children and their families, close to regional paediatric oncology units. CLIC Sargent aims to have a Home From Home at each of the UK’s 22 specialist paediatric oncology centres.
The charity also funds paediatric nurses and play specialists, as well as providing care grants, where it can.
So far, Wetherspoon has already raised £2 million, helping to provide more support for children with cancer and their families.
