Thomas Frost moved into one of the six shops on this site in the 1880s. By 1910, his drapery business had expanded into all of the shops, and soon after he replaced them with Frost's Department Store, now this Wetherspoon pub.
In the 1870s, general drapers occupied two of the six shops at 177-187 Walton Road (Kirkdale). By 1885, the draper Thomas William Frost had moved into number 187, and by 1910 T W Frost & Co, Drapers, occupied numbers 179-187. It was probably around the time of the First World War that the old shops were replaced by the present building. Frost & Co remained in their emporium until the early 1970s, then listed as T W Frost, Departmental Stores. Since then, The Sewing Centre has been the longest occupant of the three units, forming the ground floor of what is still known locally as the Frost building, and is now this Wetherspoon pub.
