This Wetherspoon pub bears the name of the 'first true English surgeon', who lived in Newark from 1349 to 1370.
It seems he was particularly adept at treating haemorrhoids, a complaint often suffered by medieval knights - apparently the result of long hours spent in the saddle, weighed down by heavy armour! By the end of his life, Arderne had achieved the status of 'master surgeon'.
We show live subtitled news (on silent) throughout the day.
