This Wetherspoon pub takes its name from its location on the New Cross Turnpike. This was one of the many private roads, built in the late 17th and 18th centuries, which charged a toll to its users.
The New Cross Turnpike Trust was established during the reign of King George III, and one of the first roads to be improved as a consequence was Dover Road.
We show live subtitled news (on silent) throughout the day.
