Until 1958, the site of the pub and the area around it were both covered by terraced housing built for railway workers. Gaffer's Row, built for the railway company's foremen, is almost nextdoor.
Little is now left as a reminder that Crewe was once of the world's great railway centres. Gaffers Row has survived, and is separated from this site by the open space which leads into the bus station.
We show live subtitled news (on silent) throughout the day.
