In Roman times, Lincoln was one of the most important towns in Britain, centred on the forum, or meeting place, recalled in the name of this Wetherspoon pub.
Lincoln probably derives its name from the Celtic word 'Ilyn', meaning pool, which was then changed to Lindum by the Romans.
