Yr Ieuan Ap Iago has been recognised at the 2013 Rhondda Cynon Taf Best Bar None awards.

The Aberdare pub was named as area winner for Cynon, by the county-borough council- run initiative, and also received accreditation.

The scheme, a collaboration between Rhondda Cynon Taf Council, South Wales Police and the local licensed trade, actively promotes a safer, more secure environment in which to socialise.

Rhondda Cynon Taf became the first county borough in Wales to adopt the Best Bar None awards scheme, in 2006, and it has fast become a celebrated example of best practice.

The aim is to ensure that everyone can enjoy a great night out in the local licensed venues, reassured and attracted by the fact that they are responsibly and safely run and operated.

Mark Miller, Wetherspoon’s area manager, said: “Well done to pub manager Lewis Howells. This is a really great award for him and his team at Yr Ieuan Ap Iago.”
