Article date: 01 Aug 2011

The Last Post, in Southend-on-Sea, has been named ‘most improved pub of the year 2011’, by members of the South East Essex CAMRA branch.

Its manager Simon Bassford (second right) is pictured receiving the award, a framed certificate (now displayed in the pub), from CAMRA branch chairman Mark Bullock (second left), with the pub’s ale champion Matt Lawlor (right) and fellow shift manager Conor Herlihy (left).

The pub has a selection of seven real ales, available at all times, including five guest ales, two of which are brewed in the region, as well as three guest ciders. Ales from Brentwood Brewing Company, in Essex, and Nethergate Brewery, in Suffolk, are among those regularly available.
