On behalf of the company, Wetherspoon’s head of personnel and training, Mandy Ferries, received three awards in the 2008 BII NITAs – the national training awards for the licensed retail industry, recognising and rewarding excellence in training.
Members of Wetherspoon’s personnel and training departments joined the celebrations at the awards ceremony in London.
Wetherspoon was named as the winner of three separate awards: ‘best development programme in managed estates’; ‘social responsibilities award, where consumption is on the premises’; ‘best training scheme run by institutions of further and higher education, in partnership with the licensed retail industry’ (with the Centre for Leisure Retailing, Nottingham Trent University).
Judges praised Wetherspoon for its ongoing support of the BII NITAs and were highly impressed by the company’s entries, regarding J D Wetherspoon as an exemplar of the very best practice in the licensed retail sector.
Judges also commended the key drivers behind Wetherspoon’s training activities: to improve the business through the development of people, but also, more widely, to contribute to raising standards of licensed retail industry professionalism.
Mandy Ferries said: “We are delighted with the three awards and will continue to work hard to ensure that we offer our staff the best-possible training.”
