Wetherspoon has been named as the only pub company among Britain’s top employers.
It is listed alongside 45 other companies in the book ‘Britain’s Top Employers 2009’.
The book aims to ‘identify, accredit and laud British companies with a demonstrable commitment to and track record in talent management best practice, on an annual basis’.
Companies are analysed on a range of criteria, including corporate social responsibility, diversity management, employee development, engagement, performance management, reward & recognition and talent management.
Wetherspoon was rated highly in the following areas: career development, company culture, pay & benefits, training & development and working conditions.
The company’s biggest ‘plus’, according to the book’s researchers, was its ‘fast-paced business environment, with plenty of opportunities for career development’.
Wetherspoon’s personnel & legal director, Su Cacioppo, said: “We are immensely proud of the fact that the company is named, once again, as one of Britain’s top employers.
“The fact that Wetherspoon is the only pub company listed in the book and that this is the sixth successive year which it has featured are both excellent achievements.
“Wetherspoon employs more than 21,000 staff across the UK – and this number will increase as the company continues to open new pubs.
“We are committed to being a top employer and offering our staff the chance to shine and develop within the company.”
