Wetherspoon has opened its 800th pub – The Unicorn Hotel in Ripon.
Wetherspoon spent £2.1 million re-developing the 32-bedroom hotel and pub on the site of an existing hotel in the Yorkshire market town.
Pub number 800 is managed by Rob Watson and comes 32 years after founder and chairman Tim Martin opened his first pub in north London.
Since then the company has opened pubs across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, and plans to open hundreds more outlets in the coming years, creating thousands of new jobs in the process.
Wetherspoon chairman Tim Martin said: “It is a wonderful milestone to open our 800th pub.
“Our pubs and hotels are extremely popular and we will continue to open many more outlets in the coming years.
“The success of our pubs and Wetherspoon in general is due to the hard work of our fantastic pub staff and those at head office, together with our loyal and fabulous customers.”
