Staff at The Sir William de Wessyngton celebrated the pub’s 10th birthday with a medieval themed party.
Pub manager Sarah Noble (second left) and her team hosted the community party at the pub in Washington, Tyne and Wear.
There was medieval storytelling and sword- and shield-making activities, for the youngsters, as well as a clairvoyant and spongethrowing – with members of staff in the stocks.
The pub is named after Sir William de Wessyngton (Washington), a Norman knight and lord of the manor. His descendants later emigrated to the United States where, in 1789, George Washington became the first president of a new nation.
