An international airport may seem an unlikely destination for a real-ale enthusiast. However, the three Wetherspoon pubs at London’s Heathrow have been assessed for a new beer guide.

A renowned real-ale writer, Des de Moor, regular contributor to Campaign for Real Ale’s What’s Brewing, ensured that he visited the airport pubs as part of his Beer Lover’s Guide to London.

Commissioned by CAMRA Books to write the guide, Des was keen to add The Skylark (T1 – Landside), The Windsor Castle (T4 – Landside) and The Crown Rivers (T5 – Airside) to his list.

Among the selection of ales available for Des to sample during his visit was an exclusive beer, brewed by Oxfordshire’s Loddon Brewery specifically for The Crown Rivers.
