A former police station now houses Wetherspoon’s pub in New Malden.
The Watchman, which cost £1.9 million to develop, is managed by Rob Newman (pictured left with deputy mayor Geoff Austin and his wife deputy mayoress Sheila Austin and area manager Ian Taylorson).
A memorial garden, which was dedicated to Constable Frederick Atkins and formed part of the original police station, has been retained.
Constable Atkins died in the line of duty in September 1881, aged just 23. A replica plaque, with details about the dedication, is displayed in the garden.
