Pub manager Carl Maddison is pictured at the opening of The Horse Shoe Inn, in Crook, with Lyndon Longhorne (left) and Darren Holloway (right).

Lyndon, a 2012 Olympic torchbearer, aiming to compete in the 2016 Paralympics, and Darren, a former Sunderland footballer, were on hand to officially open the pub.

The pub has been built on the site of a former restaurant and pub. Its name refers to its original title, The Horse Shoe, dating back to the late 18th century.

The artwork and décor depict the history of the mining industry in Crook, as well as Barnetts, an old butcher’s shop, which once occupied the site.
