A former nightclub is now home to Wetherspoon’s third pub in Sunderland.
Pub manager Nik Chapman is pictured at The Cooper Rose.
The pub stands on the site of three former buildings, one of which was home to Doctor Henry Renney, the public vaccinator for Sunderland. He was an advocate of the Cooper Rose vaccinator, which, according to the British Medical Journal, he carried with ‘half an ounce of antiseptic – more than enough for nine arms’.
The Cooper Rose is on two floors, with a bar on each, as well as a dance floor on the ground floor. There is music throughout the evening, as well as a DJ on Sunday, Monday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday night.
