The Thomas Sheraton’s pub manager, John Gillgallon, received his CAMRA ‘pub of the year’ award in the company of Cleveland branch members Jill Day, Denise Powell and Carol Lax
The Stockton-on-Tees pub was chosen as the 2009 winner, having come out on top over the Cleveland branch’s other pubs of the season.
The pubs are judged on several criteria: ambience and décor, clientele mix, value and promoting CAMRA’s ideals.
John said: “All of the staff and customers at The Thomas Sheraton are thrilled with the award.
“To be crowned officially as CAMRA’s best pub in Cleveland is fantastic.
“The Thomas Sheraton, popular with a diverse range of people, is a well-regarded and much-loved pub in the town.
“Real ale is extremely popular with our customers; we serve a superb range of beers at all times, including those from microbrewers in the region, whose beers we are delighted to support and showcase.”
Cleveland CAMRA Good Beer Guide co-ordinator, Alan Davies, said: “The Thomas Sheraton serves an excellent range of ales, in consistently good condition. John listens to our suggestions, which is great, and makes local brews available.”
