Pub manager Richard Cripps’s dedication to real ale has been rewarded, with recognition from his local Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) members.
The Calverts Court, in Stockport, was named as ‘pub of the month’, for September 2012, by the Stockport and South Manchester CAMRA branch.
Richard, pictured right with branch members, said: “This is a real milestone for us and is due to the dedication of the team here.
“We serve Abbot and Ruddles, along with five guest ales and are very keen to support local breweries, so always have a mixture of these in the line-up.
“We are also open to suggestions and have a ‘Royal Ale’ post box at the pub, where customers can post a request for a beer – and we will then try our best to get that particular ale in.
“We hold a monthly meet-the-brewer night, as well as a bi-monthly brewery tour at one of the local breweries. These are proving extremely popular with customers.
“We have a passionate team here at The Calverts Court, with Richard Chapman a new addition to the management team, as well as bar associate Paul Baguley, who are both heavily involved with the organisation of the ale events.”
Jim Flynn, (second right) branch treasurer, Stockport and South Manchester CAMRA, said: “This award has been made in recognition of the great improvement which Richard Cripps and his team have made at The Calverts Court, in recent years, in the quality of the cask beer and the customer experience.
“Richard has been manager for three and a half years, so perhaps this award is somewhat belated, but the fact that cask ale sales have almost doubled is the real testimony to his success.”
