Peter Hain MP received a cheque for £10,374.51 in aid of the Swansea Valley Miners Fund at The David Protheroe, Wetherspoon’s pub in Neath.

The money was raised by customers and staff at 35 Wetherspoon pubs across South Wales, following the accident at Gleision Colliery in which four men lost their lives.

Wetherspoon’s area manager and fundraising co-ordinator, Paul Williams, said: “The tragedy at the colliery affected everyone in Wales and we are proud that our staff and customers raised so much money for the families of those men who sadly lost their lives.

“We were delighted that Peter Hain MP, who is the local MP and also patron of the fund, accepted the cheque on behalf of the fund.”
