Pub manager Phil Edmonds and his team at The Square Peg, in Birmingham scooped the top honour in Birmingham City Council’s Best Bar None awards.
The Square Peg won the council’s ‘overall’ Best Bar None award, aimed at recognising venues which work hard to provide a safe haven for those drinkers wanting a trouble-free night out. It also scooped the ‘best city-centre pub’ title.
Also recognised at the awards was The Bottle of Sack, in Sutton Coldfield, which won the ‘best suburban pub’ title. The William Tyler, in Yardley, was also ‘highly commended’ in the same category.
The Soloman Cutler, in Birmingham’s city centre, was highly commended in the ‘best city-centre pub’ category.
All four winning pubs became 2012 accredited venues, along with all of Wetherspoon’s nine other pubs in Birmingham.
