The Archibald Simpson will be competing in a local Sunday football league, for the first time, from next season.

Regulars at the pub in Aberdeen approached manager Alec Beattie about the idea – and he was keen to offer his support, with kit sponsorship for the new team.

The group, which already plays in a five-a-side league, had so many members that they wanted to sign up for an 11-a-side league.

The team, Archibald Simpson, will play in the Aberdeen and Shire Sunday League 2011–12 season.

Alec, pictured second right with team members Alan Summers, secretary Nathan Leisk, captain David MacDonald and goalkeeper Neale Morrice, said: “I was only too happy to get involved with the team. It’s a great bunch of lads.”
