A community police initiative has called on its local pub for support.

The ‘cuppa with a copper’ scheme, in the Swansea local authority area, was looking for a venue to host its weekly event.

The Red Lion Inn, in Morriston, proved to be the ideal location, situated almost next door to the town’s police station.

The initiative invites Morriston residents to have a cup of tea with the Neighbourhood Policing Team, part of the South Wales police, and chat about those issues which matter most to them.

Two of the three PCSOs on duty in the local area are in attendance at the pub every Monday morning, from 9am until 10.30am, excluding bank holidays and operational demands.

Paul Morris, pub manager at The Red Lion Inn, said: “It is a great initiative and one with which we were only too happy to get involved.

“It is early days yet, but people are beginning to spread the word and, with everyone working together, it should have a positive impact on our community here in Morriston.”
