Despite being the new kid on the block, The Bear pub has been recognised by the local town council in an annual competition.
The Bear, which opened in Melksham in May, won first prize in the town’s 2012 ‘In Bloom’ competition.
The Wiltshire pub was voted ‘best decorated site (commercial)’ and also picked up third prize in the ‘best single hanging basket (commercial)’ category.
Lorraine McRandle, committee clerk at Melksham Town Council, said: “The standard of entries this year was particularly high, and the judges were extremely impressed with The Bear’s displays, particularly given the weather conditions this year.”
Matt Humphries, pub manager at The Bear, said: “We are especially pleased to have won the award, as the pub had been open only a couple of months, when the judging took place.
“A massive thankyou to the guys at Landscape Solutions, who are out in all weathers, looking after the excellent displays around the pub.”
Duty manager Sam Howard proudly shows off the certificate awarded to the pub.
