The pub was named as ‘best pub’ winner 2013, as well as ‘overall’ Best Bar None winner 2013, at the annual awards ceremony in the town.
A record-breaking number of bars, pubs and clubs signed up to Wigan’s Best Bar None scheme this year, with The Moon Under Water among 20 town-centre night spots to pledge their support to the scheme.
Working in partnership with the local emergency services and Wigan Council, the scheme aims to ensure pub and club-goers’ safety.
Accreditation is awarded only when judges are satisfied that a strict set of criteria is complied with. These include how premises control capacity or ensure that door staff are licensed. It also considers how premises assess the impact of noise or litter on the community and how they ensure that policies and procedures around illegal substances are adhered to.
Judges determine which accredited premises have demonstrated exceptional commitment to community safety – with the winners then recognised at the awards ceremony.
Claire said: “We finished runner-up last year, so to win ‘best pub’ was a great achievement. However, to be named ‘overall’ Best Bar None winner is just fantastic and something of which we are all very proud.”
