Mark Thexton, team leader at The Stanley Jefferson, in Bishop Auckland, took part in the ‘Tunnel-to-Towers Run’ for charity.

Mark, a retained fire-fighter with Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service, together with eight colleagues from Crook Fire Station, travelled to New York for the annual charity race in September.

The run, from Brooklyn Battery Tunnel to Ground Zero, follows the route of Stephen Siller FDNY, who lost his life in the 9/11 attacks. He had just finished a shift and was en route home, when he heard the unfolding events on the radio and returned to help.
