Mark Tanner, pub manager at The Figure of Eight, in Birmingham, has been recognised for his efforts in promoting good practice and safety through the pubwatch scheme.
Mark (pictured) has been given an award for ‘outstanding contribution’ from National Pubwatch.
Chairman of the Broad Street pubwatch and a member of the board of directors for Broad Street BID (Business Improvement District), Mark is involved in numerous initiatives to help the local area.
Mark said: “Broad Street is one of the biggest night-time economy districts in the UK. Situated west of Birmingham’s main city centre, it is the theatre and entertainment, as well as business, district for the city.
“It is a very condensed area, with pubs, bars, theatres and restaurants, and we have 25 venues involved in the pubwatch scheme.
“It is sometimes difficult trying to organise all of the meetings, but I enjoy my involvement and helping to keep everything together. It is good fun.”
As well as pubwatch and BID meetings, Mark liaises with the council’s steering committee and police, helping to address the issues which arise.
Mark said: “I have built up good relationships with all of the working partners – and it is great for Wetherspoon to have a high profile in these schemes, adding to an alreadyexcellent reputation for the company.”
Earlier this year, The Figure of Eight also picked up trophies at the ‘Best of Broad Street’ awards 2013, for ‘best door team’ and ‘best casual dining’.
