Wetherspoon has been recognised for its commitment to the environment, at the National Recycling Awards 2011.
The company was a ‘highly commended’ finalist in the annual competition, in the ‘retail recycler of the year’ category, organised by Materials Recylcing Week (MRW).
This year saw a record number of entries, of a very high standard, making it a tough process for the judges’ to pick out the finalists and eventual winners.
Giving reasons for the high commendation, MRW wrote: “Wetherspoon looked to reduce the environmental impact it had on energy, carbon, waste and recycling.
Awareness was raised through using posters and pubs were encouraged to segregate their waste to suit their operations.
“Staff can submit recycling and best practice ideas for review by head office, and weekly carbon statements give managers a handle on their recycling, waste, energy and CO2 impacts.”
