Michal Glowacki, duty manager at The Pennsylvanian, in Rickmansworth, took part in the Paris half marathon.
A former professional middle-distance runner, Michal completed the 13.1-mile course, in 53rd place, in one hour, 13 minutes.
Michal, who was one of 30,000 competitors, said: “I was hoping for a top 20–30 position, so was a little disappointed. There were too many good runners and perhaps I didn’t do enough training.
“But it was only my third race at that distance and the first this year, so it was a chance to prepare for the season.
“I hope to compete in the 1,500-metre track event in the Polish Championships in June.”
He then has his sights set on another half marathon in October/November and a full marathon next year, in either London or Berlin, as well as the UK Championships.
Michal, who moved to England from Poland eight years ago and has worked for Wetherspoon for five years, gave up professional running following an injury.
