The Mayor of Bexley, Cllr Sharon Massey, launched the London ale festival, for the southeast London region, at The Wrong ’Un. The mayor cut the ribbon to launch the event officially, at the pub in Bexleyheath, as a thankyou to pub manager Terry Fitzgerald, his deputy Rob Harris and the team for their fundraising efforts, to the tune of £570, in the 2013/14 charity appeal ‘Caring for all in Bexley’.
The mayor’s appeal is raising money for two local causes: the paediatric diabetes unit at Queen Mary’s Hospital (Sidcup) and Carers’ Support (Bexley). A meet-the-brewer session on the launch day showcased two ales, Pale Ale (4.5% ABV) and Fusilier (4.3% ABV), from local brewer James Yeomans, at the new Hop Stuff Brewery, based on the
Royal Arsenal at Woolwich. Ian Wright, pub officer from Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) Bexley branch and other CAMRA members, also attended the event which included a charity pub quiz for the mayor’s appeal.
