Wetherspoon, at Birmingham Airport, hosted a reception for the Aston Villa Former Players Association.

The group was en route to Bulgaria to play a charity football match, to recognise the contribution of Aston Villa club captain and former Bulgarian captain and international Stiliyan Petrov, who was diagnosed with acute leukaemia last year.

An Aston Villa Old Stars XI took on the Bulgarian Legends XI at the NationalS tadium in Sofia, as part of the ‘Support Stan’ campaign and to raise money for the ‘Charity Fund for the Children of Bulgaria’.

Managed by former Villa star and Arsenal manager Bruce Rioch, the Aston Villa squad included former players Stefan Postma, Mark Draper, Lee Hendrie, Mark Kinsella, Tony Daley and Alan Wright.

Andy Dorward, pub manager at Wetherspoon, said: “We were delighted to host the reception for the group, as part of its charity fundraising tour.”
