The Moon and Starfish, in Clacton-on-Sea, has joined forces with its local Jobcentre to help with a government nationwide initiative.
Working in partnership with the Clacton Jobcentre, the pub is offering work experience trials, as part of the ‘Get Britain Working’ scheme.
Job seekers of various ages, but specifically younger people struggling to fi nd work, are able to experience a six-week trial with the Wetherspoon pub, working 25 hours per week.
Jodie Forde (pictured left), shift manager at the Moon and Starfish, said: “Businesses sometimes have a negative perception of the Jobcentre, but we have had nothing but keen-to-work people – which has been so benefi cial on both sides.
“We offer full training, a tough challenge and a reference at the end of the trial period. If we have a job to offer, then these work experience trialists are fi rst on our list.”
Nicola Howlett, Wetherspoon recruitment and training manager, added: “Jodie is so passionate about the scheme and is living proof that it works, with numerous success stories at the pub.
“Not all of the people end up working for Wetherspoon, but the experience and training which they gain with us has had a positive outcome with other companies for many of them.”
