When Wetherspoon pubs open up and down Britain, it is not uncommon for the local and regional newspapers in each area to feature the new outlets in their publications.
However, when The Watchman, in New Malden, Surrey opened its doors for the first time in April this year, it attracted interest from unusual quarters.
The Korean Euro Journal published a full-page article, with photographs, about the former police station and its new life as a Wetherspoon pub.
Rob Newman, pub manager at The Watchman, said: “New Malden has the biggest South Korean community outside of South Korea, and the newspaper is published in 17 areas across Europe, for those communities.
“Sonhae Sohn, who lives and works locally and is a journalist with the paper, was part of our live training team. She was keen to feature the pub, attended the opening day and wrote a review in her paper.
“I don’t speak or read Korean, so have no idea what it says, but hopefully it is positive!”
