Pub manager Rachael Wren (right) and her team at The Wilfred Wood have been recognised with a Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) award.

Members of the Stockport and South Manchester CAMRA branch named the Hazel Grove outlet ‘pub of the month’ for March 2013.

Branch members (pictured), including chairman John Clarke (centre) and treasurer Jim Flynn (second right), attended a special presentation evening which also saw a meet-the-brewer event at the pub, hosted by Ann Jones from Kendal-based Hawkshead Brewery.

The Wilfred Wood serves six real ales at all times, during the week, including four guest ales, with the guest ale selection increasing at weekends to a choice of eight.

Rachael said: “We are absolutely thrilled to be named as ‘pub of the month’. There are many good ale pubs in the area, so to be selected is great recognition for our hard work at The Wilfred Wood.”

Mark McConachie, Stockport and South Manchester CAMRA branch secretary, said: “The Wilfred Wood is a great pub which has, within a short period of time, become a firm favourite with those in the area.

“It is not difficult to understand why, as the pub does all of the simple things well. It is lively and has brought much-needed choice and value to the area, offering good beer, friendly service and reasonable prices, in a smart, modern environment.”
