Moorhouse’s Brewery, a popular brewer among the real-ale enthusiasts at The Wilfred Wood, won a ‘battle of the brewers’ event at the pub in Hazel Grove.

The Burnley-based brewery was up against Daniel Thwaites Brewery, from Blackburn, in a four-day challenge, at the outlet near Stockport.

Each brewery showcased four ales, with the winner the first to sell out.

Moorhouse’s pipped Thwaites by just one barrel.

Shift manager and event organiser Stephen Clough said: “We plan to have a rematch during the summer, with a selection of summer ales from both breweries.”
