Customers at The Mockbeggar Hall, in Moreton, were asked to vote for their favourite ale, in a ‘battle of the brewers’ event.
The evening, organised by duty manager Will Witt, saw four local breweries battle it out for the title, trophy and the chance for their winning beer to be served in the Merseyside pub for the next 12 months.
The competing breweries and their ales were: Blackburn-based Thwaites’s golden ale Wainwright (4.1% ABV); Maharaja IPA (5.3% ABV) from Liverpool’s Liverpool One Brewery; Cheshire Cat (4.0% ABV), a blond ale from Weetwood Ales in Tarporley; Birkenhead-based Peerless Brewery’s 4.6% ABV golden ale Viking Gold.
Will, pictured second right, with representatives from all four breweries, said: “This was our second battle-of-the-brewers event and once again proved to be very popular at the pub. We received 127 votes during the evening.
“Customers were offered samples and asked to fill in voting slips, marking out of five, for taste, clarity, aroma and temperature, with Viking Gold coming out on top, with 202 points.”
A cash collection and raffle, with prizes donated from the breweries, also raised £125 for CLIC Sargent.
