Dan McArthur, shift manager at S. Fowler & Co., in Ryde, had every reason to look forward to the Olympic torch tour of the UK.
His father, Colin, was one of 22 people chosen to carry the flame along part of the route, on the Isle of Wight, at Carisbrooke.
Colin, who is blind, has become well known for his fund-raising stunts, including flying a plane and riding a motorbike around Smallbrook Speedway track, to raise awareness for RP Fighting Blindness.
Retinitis pigmentosa (RP) is a disease of the eye which leads to loss of vision and blindness. RP Fighting Blindness works hard to stimulate and fund cutting-edge research to find a treatment or cure.
Colin told the County Press local newspaper: “This is fantastic.I am really pleased, this will help to raise even more awareness of the charity."
Dan said: “We are all so proud of what dad has achieved – and this is a wonderful honour for him and our family.”
