Pub managers Darren and Jenny Westwood, at The Glass House, are delighted with the success of one particular member of their team.
After spending 18 months unemployed, Chris Gresty joined the kitchen team at the St Helens outlet and has already been lined up for promotion to kitchen supervisor.
Chris received support from Ingeus, an employment agency which delivers the government’s work programme in the north west, after being referred for specialist help by his local Jobcentre Plus.
Chris said: “I applied for more than 200 vacancies, before I was referred, and the continual knock-backs put paid to my self-esteem.
“I really wanted to work and to support my family, but, the more I tried, it seemed, the furthest I was from succeeding.”
Darren said: “Following a successful interview, we were delighted to offer Chris a trial shift. In that time, we can usually tell whether somebody has the right aptitude for the job – and we were confident in Chris’s abilities.”
Jenny added: “He proved his case very quickly and it has given us confidence to use the services of Ingeus again – the work programme has certainly worked for us and for Chris.”
