Full-time shift manager Carly Wilson has a very unusual part-time role.
Carly, who works at The Henry Bessemer, in Workington, is the mayoress of the town – a mayoral consort for the Mayor of Workington, Councillor Andrew Lawson.
Cllr. Lawson, who also previously worked at the pub with Carly, became the country’s youngest-ever mayor in May, at the age of 21.
Carly said: “Andrew is my best friend – and when he asked me to take on this supporting role, I jumped at the chance to help him.
“I believe in his enthusiasm and in what he is aiming for.”
Andrew said: “I wanted somebody who I enjoy spending time with, who I can trust and who will support me.”
That support from Carly includes attending numerous functions, events and engagements for organisations in the community and charities, throughout the one-year term which concludes in May 2013.
Carly (pictured), from Workington, said: “It has been the opportunity of a lifetime for me, meeting so many different people and experiencing things which I would never have had the chance to do.
“Highlights so far have been trips to Val-de-Reuil (in France) and Selm (in Germany), both twinned with Workington, as well as Princess Anne opening the new Northside Bridge in the town.
“It has also been a great excuse for a few new additions to my wardrobe too!”
