Pub manager Matt Humphries is pictured with team members Charlie Robinson (right) and Gayle Clark, following his pub’s success in the Melksham in Bloom competition 2013.
Matt, who runs The Bear, in the Wiltshire town, picked up first prize in the ‘best decorated site’ category, as well as second prize in ‘best single tub/container/hanging basket (commercial)’ category.
Lorraine McRandle, Melksham Town Council’s committee clerk, said: “The standard of entries this year was particularly high – and the judges were extremely impressed with the displays at The Bear.”
The town as a whole was also judged as part of the South West in Bloom competition, with The Bear singled out for particular praise.
Miriam Zaccarelli, deputy town clerk, said: “The judges made particular note of The Bear, as it may be considered for a discretionary award.
“This means that, while Melksham as a town is considered against other towns across the southwest, for a general award, The Bear would be in its own category of ‘best pub in the southwest’.”
Steve Edge, Wetherspoon’s general manager, said: “Well done to everyone involved at The Bear – brilliant work.”
