The Beccles Society has honoured the outlet with a top accolade. Society chairman John Sayer is pictured presenting the Dr Nicholson Award to manager Lee Utting. Society members David Lindley and Andrea Downes are also pictured.

Mr Sayer said: “The award recognises good design of a new development or quality building refurbishment.
“In this case, we are honouring a super project which has rescued an important building in the heart of Beccles.” Wetherspoon spent £2.38 million redeveloping the pub and
20-bedroom hotel, on the site of the former hotel/pub.

The Kings Head Hotel, retaining the name. Situated in the centre of the market town, this former coaching inn was designated a grade II listed building in 1971. Manager Lee Utting said: “We are honoured to receive the award from the Beccles Society. It means a lot to us that local people appreciate what has been done. “Wetherspoon has a great tradition of keeping historic buildings in use – and The Kings Head Hotel is a fine example.” The Beccles Society was formed in 1966 and aims to stimulate public awareness and appreciation of the beauty, history and character of the Suffolk town. Dr Edward Nicholson was the first chairman and served for 21 years.
