The Royal Hop Pole, in Tewkesbury, is celebrating a hat-trick of awards, from its local Campaign for Real Ale members.
The pub has been named as Tewkesbury CAMRA’s ‘pub of the year’ for 2012.
The pub’s managers, husband-and-wife team Stuart and Linda Coxshall (pictured), who have run the outlet since it opened in May 2008, have picked up the ‘pub of the year’ title for the third successive year.
Bill Hunt, from Tewkesbury CAMRA, said: “Tewkesbury CAMRA’s ‘pub of the year’ 2012 award, for the third year in succession, has been awarded to The Royal Hop Pole for the quality and choice of ales available over the last 12 months.
“The pub supports local breweries and has started to run a regular competition in support of them. Whichever local ale customers judge to be their favourite during the week becomes a regular ale for a period.
“The Royal Hop Pole is a popular choice for both local and visiting ale-drinkers, and managers Stuart and Linda are always keen to listen to their customers, especially our local ale heroes ‘The Beer Monsters’ – a dedicated band of CAMRA members, found at this Wetherspoon pub on most Saturdays.”
The Royal Hop Pole serves eight real ales at all times, including six ever-changing guest beers from local breweries.
Popular beers include Hill Climb from Cheltenham-based Prescott Brewery; the recent winner of the battle of the brewers Old Higby from Great Western Brewing Company in Hambrook, Bristol; Cheltenham SPA ales from Battledown Brewery in Cheltenham; beers from The Cottage Brewing Company in Somerset.
Stuart said: “We are absolutely delighted to have won the award for the third year running – an incredible achievement considering that the pub has been open for only four years.”
