Pub manager Karen Blainey is pictured with Waverley’s mayor, Councillor Richard Gates, at a food hygiene initiative launch.
Karen’s pub, The Jack Phillips, in Godalming, is one of just 20 food businesses in the Surrey town which topped the ratings, in the borough’s food hygiene standards, with a five-star award.
Food businesses (such as restaurants, take-aways and pubs) are inspected by Waverley Borough Council’s environmental health officers, to check that hygiene standards meet legal requirements.
The launch of this new initiative aims to make good food hygiene easier to spot for potential customers.
Local food businesses will now be given a sticker and certificate and encouraged to display these at the entrance to their premises, allowing customers to see them easily and decide whether they want to go in.
Customers can also check food hygiene standards at local restaurants, pubs and take-aways online: www.food.gov.uk/ratings
