The Red Lion, in Ripley, has gained the highest rating possible for the standard of its food hygiene.

The pub has received a five-star certificate, in the Scores on the Doors Food Hygiene Rating Scheme, run by its local Amber Valley Borough Council and the Food Standards Agency.

Fiona Jackson, The Red Lion’s kitchen manager (pictured right), said: “Hygiene is of paramount importance in our kitchen, and we place a high priority on the standards set at the pub.

“It is great for our hard work and effort to be rewarded – recognition which is also important for customers’ confidence.”

Also pictured (left to right) are kitchen associate Michelle Guyler, pub manager Scott Hutchinson and duty manager Joanna Marshall.

A total of 479 Wetherspoon pubs have been inspected across the UK as part of the Scores on the Doors Scheme.

The latest figures show that 201 Wetherspoon pubs have achieved the maximum five-star rating, with the average rating across all of those inspected being 4.19.
