FAQs

ADMISSION FEES

As you would expect from a pub, we offer free entry. However, at certain times, some of our pubs may charge an admission fee. Usually, this is when we offer a late-night licence or there is a popular local event (such as a DJ, quiz or karaoke) or when extra security is required for our customers’ benefit.

ARTWORK IN OUR PUBS

Adding local colour and interest to our pubs is a diverse range of paintings, sculptures and photographs, commissioned by us, in the most part, from local artists. Also, our pubs will often display specially commissioned works from artists nationwide.

BARRING

Our pub teams take great pride in providing a safe, relaxing and welcoming environment for people to enjoy a drink and a meal.

In providing such an environment, it might mean that, on occasion, the pub team is forced to bar individuals from the pub – to protect the enjoyment of others. This is very much a local decision, at the team’s discretion – and we respect their legal right to make that decision. As such, head office will view the local team’s decisions and actions as final and will not overturn them.

BOOKING VENUES/TABLES

If you’re looking to throw the perfect anniversary bash, a surprise birthday meal or just have a great party – where better than your local Wetherspoon? Many of our pubs have separate hire areas, with some even hiring out the whole pub (including bar, music and bands). Contact your local manager to chat about your needs.

For smaller get-togethers, we can usually reserve a table or area for drinks and a meal. It might not always be possible, but our teams will do their very best to accommodate your needs.

CAMRA VOUCHERS

Wetherspoon is Britain’s biggest supporter of microbrewers and actively works with local CAMRA branches. Every year, we support CAMRA by providing its members with discount vouchers for real ale at Wetherspoon, worth up to £20. Check out the terms and conditions at the back of the vouchers for details of how to redeem them against the cost of your pint.

CAMRA members may also be able to use their membership cards for a discount on real ale in some of our pubs. However, please be aware that this is very much a local decision and might not always be possible – best to check with your local pub first, to avoid disappointment. Also, remember that Wetherspoon prides itself on the value of our ales – all day every day.

PLEASE NOTE: CAMRA vouchers cannot be accepted at The Hope & Champion pub (Beaconsfield Motorway Services)

CHARITY REQUESTS

As you can imagine we receive a large number of requests for donations, sponsorships and charitable appeals.

Obviously we would like to help all of them but we are unable to. Our nominated charity is CLIC Sargent (the leading cancer charity for children, young people and their families in the UK) which we direct all our support and fundraising efforts into.

We are sorry that we are not able to support your very worthy cause and wish you good luck.

DIETARY REQUIREMENTS

Are you conscious about calories or have specific dietary needs? Why not check out the nutritional information and values of our meals? You will find this when viewing each dish on our menu.

You can even create and print a menu tailored to your needs.

DOGS

While we are fond of dogs, we allow only registered assistance dogs in our pubs, including gardens and patio areas.

To avoid confusion when bringing a registered assistance dog, please ensure that it is readily identifiable by means of its leash, collar or harness. It is also helpful, if you bring along your own identification which explains the dog’s purpose.

DRESS CODE/GUIDELINES

Some of our pubs do operate a dress code, at certain times. It is advisable to contact the pub directly, before visiting, to establish whether there is a dress code.

ELECTRONIC/VAPOUR CIGARETTES

The issue of whether or not electronic/vapour cigarettes can be used in our pubs has been considered at the highest levels within the company.

We have also, on occasions, experienced customers attempting to pass real cigarettes off as electronic cigarettes, resulting in customers actually trying to smoke in the pub. Although these incidents are rare, they can result in the pub being heavily fined.

Therefore, due to the problems experienced with the monitoring of these cigarettes, we can confirm that we do not permit the use of electronic/vapour cigarettes in our pubs.

EMPLOYEE/PAYROLL QUERY

FAMILY DINING

We welcome families, young people and children in our pubs.

Children (under 16 years)
We welcome children in our pubs, until a set time each evening. This time is set at a local level, by the pub and its licence, so will vary from pub to pub; that said, it will usually be during 5–9pm.

To avoid disappointment, we suggest that you contact the pub directly, before visiting, to check when children must leave.

Children must be accompanied by a person aged 18 years or over. For their own safety, children must be supervised at all times. If any adult with children wishes to consume alcohol, then we request that all members of the party order a meal (babies and toddlers excepted).

Children are not permitted to order or consume alcohol or to play on gaming machines.

Young people (16–17 years)
The same timing restrictions which apply to children also apply to 16 to 17-year-olds.

Young people may order and consume food and non-alcoholic drinks (excluding Scotland). They are not permitted to order or consume alcohol or to play on gaming machines.

Gift vouchers can be ordered by customers based in the UK only and whose credit or debit card is registered in the UK. Usually, vouchers will be sent by first-class post; however, orders of £50.00 and over will be sent by Special Delivery, at an additional cost to the cardholder. The current rate of Special Delivery is shown on this voucher-ordering page.

Please note that vouchers are processed and sent out on the next working day after placing your order, regardless of which delivery method you choose.

HALAL MEAT

None of our food is certified as Halal. We have no plans to introduce Halal food in the future. All animals are stunned prior to slaughter and the process used complies with UK & EU legislation.

MYSTERY SHOPPERS

In addition to the letters and phone calls received, Wetherspoon gains valuable insight to the ‘pub experience’ through its mystery shopper programme. The scheme involves thousands of everyday customers visiting our pubs and scoring them on their experience – every pub gets at least two such assessments every month.

In order to pay a deposit to reserve a table for special promoted events such as Mothers Day and Christmas Day simply speak to the duty manager. We can also take deposits by telephone.

PRAWN PROVENANCE

Our Prawns are traceable from legitimate sources.The feed does contain fishmeal as all feed does.

PRICING

Local factors can result in different prices or promotions for an individual pub or area of pubs. For this reason, the online food and drink menus will not include prices, as they can vary from pub to pub.

TELEVISIONS

Most of our pubs offer television, showing mainly the news, with subtitles. On occasions, selected pubs may show major sporting events, with sound.

PROOF OF AGE

The proof-of-age documents which we accept are: United Kingdom PASS-accredited proof-of-age card, UK Military ID with a photograph, current national passport or UK photographic driving licence. Please note that there may be exceptions to this, subject to local licensing and police advice.

Identification or proof of age other than the above will not be accepted.

If you are lucky enough to look under the age of 21 years (Challenge 21) or 25 years (Challenge 25), we will request that you prove that you are over 18, before you are served alcohol.

WI-FI

All of our pubs offer FREE Wi-Fi, with The Cloud. Select WiFi - The Cloud from the network list.

SPORT ON TELEVISION

Many of our pubs will show all the major sporting events available on terrestrial TV. A limited few also have SKY TV. Please contact the pub directly for confirmation of the events each pub is showing

WORKFARE

We can confirm that Wetherspoon no longer support the Workfare programme.

We continue to support entirely voluntary work experience programmes, in particular those for the young, the disabled and ex-military. We define ‘entirely voluntary’ as programmes where candidates will not lose any benefits where they do not participate in the programme, and normally candidates are paid to complete this experience.

We do not support programmes if attendance is mandatory for benefits to be retained, for example Workfare.

STUDENTS/RESEARCH

We receive many requests for information and regret that we are unable to answer individual questions or complete questionnaires, especially those of a confidential nature.
