Our Pubs

Flushed with success - award-winning loos

When it comes to achieving the highest standards in pub toilets, Wetherspoon is in a league of its own.

For the fifth year running, the company has won top awards in the ‘pubs and wine bars’ category of the Loo of the Year competition. Indeed, ever since these national awards were launched, we have been a regular high flyer.

It is not unusual to find a sofa and chairs in the ladies’ anteroom. Indeed, a few of our ladies’ loos are the same size as the whole of some of our pubs.

Better by design…

Wetherspoon has earned a reputation for converting a wide array of buildings into pubs.

We have quite simply transformed and breathed new life into buildings previously used as cinemas, supermarkets, banks, opera houses, court houses, fire stations, funeral parlours and, of course, former pubs and hotels.

Our conversions cover buildings of all ages, from 14th-century listed buildings to new units in leisure centres and airports.

Along the way, we have won numerous design, conservation and heritage awards, based on our skills, experience and vision to create properties of real distinction.

On average, Wetherspoon will spend £1.4 million on each pub conversion and will go to great lengths to retain, research and display the history of the building, in each pub.

We also use local names for our pubs, derived from either the building’s history or local figures associated with the site or surrounding area. When in our pubs, you will often find artwork and sculptures commissioned from local artists.

So, whether modern, historic, new-build or conversion – our aim is for all of our pubs to be a design of distinction.
