Chilled lager
The world’s top brands of lager deserve to be sold correctly chilled.
The fact is that they taste better when served chilled – they are brewed that way. The coldness adds a crispness and sharpness to the taste – so, whatever the temperature outside or in, the perfect serve is a chilled lager at below 3°C.
Wetherspoon recently invested in bar technology which guarantees you a perfectly chilled pint, served at 1–3°C.
This isn’t some piece of hype from the big brewers – it actually works! The technology was developed ‘down under’, where warm beer is sacrilege.
All draught lagers pass through a line which, in turn, travels past a super-chilled cooler; this ‘flash-chills’ the liquid, just before being poured. When this happens, the lager reaches subzero temperatures. It doesn’t freeze, because of the alcohol.
By the time your lips touch the lager, it has reached the ideal temperature, in the 1–3°C range.
