Social Responsibility

J D Wetherspoon is a central part of local communities all over the UK, bringing benefits to millions of people in their daily life, through social enjoyment or direct/indirect employment.

The backbone of our growth has been the provision of the highest standards in all of our outlets, since we opened our very first pub in 1979, but we also understand that our role in society doesn’t begin and end simply by serving quality food and drink.

This emphasis, on creating a positive impact on society, is called corporate social responsibility – a grand title, perhaps, but one which means that we care about and consider how we can interact positively with the environment and those around us.

Customers feel at home with those who treat them with respect and behave responsibly; employees quite rightly want to feel proud of the company for which they work and to have the opportunity to develop as individuals; investors also value companies which support their local communities in a positive way.

"employees quite rightly want to feel proud of the company for which they work and to have the opportunity to develop as individuals"

Provided below is an introduction to the areas to which we pay special attention, how we create a valuable contribution to society and also the team involved in achieving this, in areas such as:

  • environment
  • community
  • charities
  • people
  • ethics
  • While we do not claim to be perfect, we have been praised, over several years, for many aspects of our business – this can now be placed under the banner of CSR. However, we always strive to improve and would welcome any feedback which you may have. This will be passed on directly to our CSR group. Send us your feedback.
