Pubs
Do you allow children in to your pubs?
Yes! We encourage families to visit our pubs, except for some where there are some licensing restrictions. Please contact your local J D Wetherspoon pub to find out available times and child guidelines. You can also view our children’s menu, here.
What kind of proof of age do you accept?
It can be hard to distinguish whether someone is over 18 and therefore old enough to purchase alcohol. So, we have a rule which states: If you are lucky enough to look younger than 21, you may be asked to prove your age. This is in line with the latest government initiative – Challenge 21.
The proof of age documents which we accept are: current passport, photo driving licence, ‘PASS’ accredited proof of age cards. Please don’t be offended if you are asked for proof of age in our pubs. All of our teams are trained to ask; it is part of their job and our responsibility as a responsible alcohol-retailer.
What facilities do you have for customers with disabilities?
We are committed to providing equality of access for all of our customers; wherever possible, we have accessible toilets, access ramps and lifts in our pubs and bars, except in a very few, where the structure of the building does not allow it. We have also recently updated our Braille menu, available at the bar. Large-print menus are also available, on request.
To find specific pub contact details, go to our find a pub page. If you plan to visit our pubs and have any additional requirements, please let us know and we will do our best to accommodate you.
Why don’t you always have the sound turned up on TVs in your pubs?
We want to create a welcoming atmosphere in our pubs. Part of our success is that customers can visit our pubs and have a conversation which doesn’t have to be shouted over the sound of a dodgy music-video channel.
We show Sky News and a selection of programmes throughout the day (with subtitles), so that you can watch the TVs, if you are interested. Occasionally, where national interest demands, we do allow sound, as long as it is never allowed to dominate the entire pub.
Food/Drinks/Pricing
Where do I find out the nutritional value of dishes on your menu or what I can eat, if I have any special dietary requirements?
Check out our food facts page. If you cannot find what you are looking for, call our customer service team members, who will find out for you.
How do I purchase WetherVouchers?
WetherVouchers are available in £5 and £2 denominations. To place an order, call our customer services team members: 01923 477 777. We take payments by credit and debit card. Cheques will also be accepted, although we will wait for them to clear, before sending any WetherVouchers.
If you get your order in before 12noon (and paying by credit and debit card), we will do our best to dispatch them the same day (excluding weekends and bank holidays).
For more information about our vouchers, visit our vouchers page.
Why are your prices different from pub to pub?
We do our best to ensure that you get excellent products, at the best prices – and certainly the best prices in town. To do this, we keep an eye on our competition, trying to ensure that we have the best offers. We know that prices vary from area to area, therefore we wouldn’t want to be charging city prices in a small town.
Recruitment and Careers
I’ve heard that Wetherspoon is opening a pub in my home town – how do I apply for a job?
You need to contact your local Job Centre which will be able to give you an application form and let you know when we are starting the recruitment process. To make it easier, and to keep up to date with any JDW pubs opening near you, you can check out the new openings page in the careers section.
How do I apply to work with you?
If you want to apply for management opportunities, please complete the on-line application form through our Web site, following the links careers page.
Alternatively, if seeking bar/kitchen positions, please download an application form from our careers page and hand the completed application in to your local Wetherspoon pub.
Why are there not specific vacancies for certain pubs?
We advertise general vacancies for a certain area (eg home counties) as specifics are continually changing and positions could have been filled or new vacancies may come up between the time you apply and the time you are offered a position. Please just apply under the area in which you wish to work.
Do I have to complete an on-line application or can I submit a CV for management positions?
We accept a completed application for management positions only. We prefer candidates to do an on-line application; however, we can send out a manual application, if you do not have Internet access. This application form allows all candidates to be screened against the same criteria and selection process.
Do you franchise your pubs?
It’s simple, we don’t! ..but if you do want to work with us, you can apply on line via our recruitment page.
Miscellaneous
What are your policies on recycling and environment-friendly products?
We are committed to doing our bit to save the environment and have several projects in the pipe line, including the first totally environmentally friendly pub in Melton Mowbray (which opened in September 2007) and running our delivery lorries on bioDiesel which has been made from recycled oil from our own cooking oil. Take a look at our corporate and social responsibility page to find out more.
Which charities do you support?
We currently support CLIC Sargent, a charity which supports children with cancer and their families. We are proud to say, through the hard fund-raising work of our staff and customers, that we have now raised £2 million! Visit the CLIC Sargent page to find out more about the vital support which it offers.
